To build an aviary in Planet Zoo 2, make a closed Habitat barrier with a Staff Gate connected to a path, apply the Roof Tool, and add Roof Supports where more flying space is needed. Check the planned species with Pin Species before filling the Habitat.
This guide summarizes Frontier’s official building and animal-care documentation, checked October 20, 2026. It is not a hands-on test. The same day’s complete Zoopedia snapshot contains 12 records tagged HabitatFlying: 11 Base Game and one Deluxe, within 136 total animal records.
How do you build an aviary in Planet Zoo 2?
Frontier’s official guide describes an aviary as a barrier Habitat with a roof: close the barrier perimeter, connect a Staff Gate to the path network, then apply the Roof Tool. Roof Supports add height and flying space. These are documented controls, not Game Field Guide test results.
- Choose Habitat Barrier and set barriers appropriate for your planned species. Draw a complete loop, add a Staff Gate and connect it to a path.
- In Habitat Barriers, select the Roof Tool, then select the Habitat to generate its roof. Adjust Roof Options if needed.
- Add Roof Supports where more height and Flyable Area are needed.
- Before moving animals in, open the Habitat’s Animals tab and select Pin Species. Choose a species, use + Add to Selection, then Confirm Selection to see its requirements.
- Add species-appropriate Feeders, Nests and Enrichment from the Habitats browser, then check terrain, temperature and welfare after moving the animals in.

Which flying animals are in the current official snapshot?
These 12 records carry the official HabitatFlying field in the snapshot checked October 20, 2026. Each name links to its official Zoopedia record; the edition label comes from that same dataset.
- Eurasian Bittern — Base Game
- Golden Eagle — Deluxe
- Great Hornbill — Base Game
- Greater Flamingo — Base Game
- Javan Green Magpie — Base Game
- Long-Eared Owl — Base Game
- Long-Tailed Parakeet — Base Game
- Secretarybird — Base Game
- Shoebill — Base Game
- Toco Toucan — Base Game
- White-Backed Vulture — Base Game
- White-Tailed Sea-Eagle — Base Game
Greater Flamingo, Javan Green Magpie and Long-Tailed Parakeet are the three additions relative to our September 28 nine-record list. The count describes this dated catalogue check, not a permanent final roster or a tested mixed-species combination. See the complete animal database for the same 136-record snapshot and edition fields.
What do the roof, supports and gate actually do?
Frontier documents the construction controls and species-information panels. Those instructions replace the earlier pre-release checklist; they do not establish one universal height, support spacing or compatibility rule.
| Component or question | Documented answer and limits |
|---|---|
| Barrier and Staff Gate | A continuous barrier loop and one Staff Gate make a usable Habitat; connect it to the path network. |
| Roof Tool | Generates a roof for the selected Habitat. Frontier documents escape prevention; individual escape scenarios remain untested here. |
| Roof Supports | Raise roof height and Flyable Area. No universal pole span or minimum height is verified here. |
| Species requirements | Pin Species shows combined needs. The HabitatFlying tag alone is not a complete welfare specification. |
| Nests | Use species filters or Nesting Sites in the animal’s Info Panel to find a suitable nest type. |
| Mixed-species compatibility | A shared enclosure tag is not a tested cohabitation result. Compatibility remains independently unverified here. |
What should you check if an aviary is not meeting the animals’ needs?
Open the animal’s Info Panel and match the unmet need to the relevant field. These checks follow Frontier’s documentation; they are not a verified repair for every save.
| Warning or symptom | Field to inspect | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Not enough flying space | Flyable Area and the species’ space requirement | Review the roof and Roof Supports. Frontier says supports increase roof height and Flyable Area; compare the resulting area with the species’ requirement. |
| Missing nesting sites | Info Panel → Social → Nesting Sites | Select the need to show suitable nests. Check the species’ Nest Type, nest access and the number of breeding pairs. |
| Another welfare need is low | The specific shelter, terrain, temperature, food or enrichment field | Use the species’ requirement for that field and adjust the matching provision. More roof height will not address every welfare need. |
Nest rule: Frontier’s Animals guide says a mixed-sex group of egg-laying animals needs at least one nest for each pair, and a pair can mate only when it can access a suitable nest. Nest Type and nesting behaviour vary by species; use the species filter or its Nesting Sites field and check its Zoopedia entry. This rule does not guarantee breeding or replace the animal’s other needs.
Panel and nesting documentation checked October 30, 2026 (UTC), alongside Frontier’s roof and flying-space instructions. No universal height, nest spacing or mixed-species welfare values were measured here.
What evidence should you record before reporting a bug?
Our suggested recording order is to save a separate copy of the zoo, then note the platform, game build, species, animal count, reported unmet need and the steps that reproduce it. Capture the relevant Habitat and animal panels before changing one item at a time. This is an editorial diagnostic method; it does not establish that the problem is a game bug or that a specific workaround is safe for every save.
What has this guide not tested?
Game Field Guide has not run the aviary workflow in the game or checked menu differences across PC, PS5 and Xbox. We have not verified species-by-species area and height values, maximum unsupported roof span, mixed-species compatibility, every escape path, keeper workload, or large-aviary frame rate. For documented controls and care needs, use Frontier’s guides and the current in-game panels; unmeasured performance and save-specific behavior remain unverified.
For the different construction and water-care systems used by fully aquatic species, see the aquarium guide. A flying-habitat tag also does not establish Wildlife Reserve eligibility; check the reserve guide and its separately sourced conditions.
