Planet Zoo 2 adds custom freshwater and saltwater aquariums for fully aquatic animals. Frontier confirms filtration systems, keeper access for diving into animal care, individual aquatic animals and shoal fish.
The exact welfare values and best aquarium layouts are not public yet. This guide separates the working feature outline from details that still need release-build testing.

How many aquatic records are confirmed?
In the official Zoopedia snapshot checked July 30, 17 records carried an aquarium field:
- 11 were
HabitatAquarium; - 6 were
HabitatAquarium|Exhibit.
That is a snapshot of revealed records, not a final launch total.
Aquarium habitat records
Blackspotted Puffer, Blacktip Reef Shark, Golden Trevally, Great Hammerhead, Hawksbill Turtle, Humphead Wrasse, Longfin Batfish, Ocean Sunfish, Pacific Sardine, Red Lionfish and Spotted Eagle Ray.
Aquarium-or-exhibit records
African Tigerfish, Blue and Gold Fusilier, Blunthead Cichlid, Brown Trout, Clown Loach and Schooling Bannerfish.
The confirmed animals database records the edition, shoal flag, reveal date and official source for each one.
Individual animals versus shoal fish
Frontier’s official data includes a ShoalFish field. Nine of the current aquarium-capable records carry that flag:
- African Tigerfish
- Blue and Gold Fusilier
- Blunthead Cichlid
- Brown Trout
- Clown Loach
- Golden Trevally
- Longfin Batfish
- Pacific Sardine
- Schooling Bannerfish
Official previews indicate that prominent aquatic animals receive individual welfare management while shoals are handled as groups. The release build will determine which controls, costs and welfare indicators differ.
A safe pre-launch aquarium plan
You can plan the structure without pretending the balance values are known:
- Decide whether the concept is freshwater or saltwater.
- Reserve staff-side access rather than designing only the guest view.
- Leave space for filtration and maintenance facilities.
- Separate the animal-care route from the busiest guest path.
- Avoid finalizing mixed-species combinations until compatibility is verified.
- Keep expansion space for larger animals and later reveals.
This is a design checklist, not a claim that every item is required in the same way for every species.
What we will test at launch
Our launch protocol will record:
- minimum buildable aquarium dimensions;
- freshwater and saltwater setup workflow;
- filtration coverage, cost and failure effects;
- keeper access and dive-task timing;
- individual versus shoal management;
- animal welfare fields and group limits;
- mixed-species behavior;
- guest viewing, education and congestion;
- performance impact in small and large aquariums.
Each result will include platform, build number and test date.
