The best pre-release settings for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam are a stable baseline, not a copied list of low values. Start at your display’s native resolution, use the game’s recommended preset, measure one repeatable scene, then lower one expensive option at a time. Use TSR or DLSS only after recording a native-resolution baseline, and enable Frame Generation only when the underlying frame rate already feels responsive.
This guide was last verified on July 29, 2026. The game launches on August 13, and the developer says optimization is continuing through launch. Exact numeric presets will be added only after the release build can be tested.
Fast baseline before launch
Use this safe starting workflow:
- Update the GPU driver and restart the PC.
- Use your monitor’s native resolution and a normal graphics preset.
- Disable overlays and recording tools only for the first diagnostic run.
- Record average FPS, frame-time behavior and input feel in one repeatable scene.
- If GPU usage is consistently high, test one lower quality option or an image-reconstruction mode.
- If FPS drops only on a crowded server or during heavy action, test another server and time of day before blaming a graphics setting.
- Keep the change only if it improves the same test without making visibility or input feel unacceptable.
Steam currently targets 1080p/60 at the minimum specification and 1440p/60 at the recommended specification. Both targets are marked subject to change. Check the dated Hell Let Loose: Vietnam system requirements before comparing results.
Measure before changing settings
A useful settings test controls the variables that can otherwise mislead you. Record:

Run the same route for long enough to include movement, foliage and a view across terrain. Do not compare an empty menu with a 100-player battle.
Is the problem GPU, CPU, server or network?
The developer’s July performance update says open-beta limits were found across the GPU, CPU and server, and that different players were affected differently. Animation smoothness, movement, voice quality and input response could also be influenced by client or server performance.
Use symptoms to choose the next test:

These are diagnostic signals, not proof. Change one variable and reproduce the result before deciding.
Three safe profile frameworks
The following profiles are testing frameworks, not final numeric presets.
Performance profile
Use this when the GPU is the confirmed limit or the base frame rate is below your comfort target.
- Begin with a lower overall preset.
- Keep output resolution native, then test TSR or DLSS quality modes before using aggressive scaling.
- Leave Hardware Lumen off unless testing shows ample GPU headroom.
- Keep Frame Generation off until the base frame rate is already smooth.
- Protect image clarity: compare foliage edges, distant movement and motion stability after every change.
Balanced profile
Use this as the default starting point for hardware near Steam’s recommended tier.
- Start from the automatically selected or recommended preset.
- Test native resolution first.
- If the GPU is consistently saturated, compare TSR or DLSS at a quality-oriented mode.
- Keep the options that improve frame time without damaging the ability to read terrain.
- Cap or synchronize frame rate only after deciding whether the bottleneck is stable.
Visual profile
Use this only when the balanced profile has clear performance headroom.
- Increase one visual feature at a time.
- Test Hardware Lumen separately because the developer describes it as a significant GPU workload intended for high-end PCs.
- Re-test heavy foliage, long views and active combat rather than judging a screenshot.
- Prefer stable frame delivery over a maximum preset label.
TSR, DLSS and Frame Generation
The official performance blog confirms TSR and DLSS image reconstruction for supported AMD and NVIDIA hardware. These systems render at a lower internal resolution and reconstruct the final image. They can improve performance, but the best mode depends on resolution, hardware and tolerance for artifacts.
Test reconstruction like this:
- Capture a native-resolution result.
- Enable one technology and a quality-oriented mode.
- Repeat the same route.
- Compare frame time, fine foliage, motion, text and distant silhouettes.
- Move to a more aggressive mode only if the performance gain is necessary.
The developer also confirms Frame Generation for supported NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series cards and newer. It recommends using the feature only with a solid baseline because low base frame rates can increase input latency. Treat generated FPS and responsive input as separate measurements.
Do not promise support for a technology that does not appear in your launch-build menu. Hardware and driver eligibility must be verified locally.
Hardware Lumen
Hardware Lumen provides hardware-accelerated lighting and shadows. The developer positions it as an optional enhancement for high-end PCs with performance headroom.
If performance is the goal, test with Hardware Lumen disabled first. If the balanced baseline is already stable, turn it on alone and compare:
- GPU utilization and power;
- average frame rate and frame-time spikes;
- dark interior visibility;
- foliage and shadow stability;
- input feel during combat.
There is no universal competitive answer before release-build testing. A brighter or flatter image is not automatically more accurate, and maximum lighting quality is not automatically better for play.
Visibility-sensitive settings
Visibility in a dense jungle is more than raw resolution. When the launch menu is available, test options affecting:
- anti-aliasing and reconstruction stability;
- foliage and view distance;
- shadows and global illumination;
- post-processing, blur and depth effects;
- texture clarity and filtering;
- sharpening.
The goal is a readable, stable image in motion. Extreme low settings can create shimmer or unstable edges that make movement harder to identify. Extreme sharpening can add halos. Compare stillness, panning and fast movement.
The July developer Q&A also says optic aiming uses depth of field to focus attention. The final control and visual impact must be checked in the release build before recommending a specific value.
Troubleshoot stutter in this order
- Reboot and confirm the current game and GPU-driver versions.
- Close nonessential overlays, browsers, recorders and hardware-monitoring tools.
- Confirm the game is using the intended GPU and power mode.
- Return to a known preset instead of keeping many undocumented changes.
- Run the repeatable local test.
- Compare another server to separate local rendering from server behavior.
- Reduce one GPU-heavy feature only if evidence points to GPU load.
- Test image reconstruction only after recording the native baseline.
- Verify free storage and OS health; Steam currently lists 50 GB available space but does not specify an SSD requirement.
- If the issue survives a clean baseline, document it with hardware, version, map, server and reproduction steps.
Do not delete configuration files or use launch commands copied from older Hell Let Loose guides without a current source and a backup.
If settings do not save
The official July performance blog says some open-beta players saw defaults that did not suit their hardware, settings that did not apply correctly, or settings that did not save reliably. The developer reported improvements ahead of the next playtest.
For the launch build:
- Change one obvious option.
- Apply it and return to the menu.
- Restart the game and check the value.
- If it reverted, record the build, Windows account permissions and whether cloud synchronization is involved.
- Use the official support route before editing files manually.
This section describes a beta-era issue and a verification workflow. It does not claim the problem will exist at launch.
What not to change blindly
- Do not lower every setting at once.
- Do not compare different maps, servers and resolutions as if they were one benchmark.
- Do not enable Frame Generation to hide an unstable base frame rate.
- Do not call network rubber-banding a GPU problem without testing.
- Do not copy hidden engine-file tweaks without knowing how to restore the file.
- Do not trade away a stable image for an impressive average FPS number.
Launch benchmark sheet
